Daily Prompt: We Can Be Taught! Really?

Tell us a moment or an incident that you treasure  – not necessarily because it brought you happiness, but because it taught you something about yourself.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us LEARNING.

Well I have to say the first moment that comes to mind is one from last night, and it is one that brought me happiness.

My husband and I have this inside joke about how both of us are terrible dancers. If we went to a night club people would be lining up to watch the comedians, and forget why they came in the first place. We’re rather uncoordinated, it’s not like we woke up yesterday and said, ” hey, I thought I used to know this”, lol…..no, no…. we’re bad and we know it.

Last night we were in the middle of a hug ,and it turned into us trying to dance, yet again. We were jiving in the kitchen, laughing hysterically because the first thing we did was step on each others feet, lol.

Grabbing a special moment doesn’t have to be planned, the best ones are spontaneous and full of good intention, sometimes making you laugh so hard your sides hurt. We vowed to keep dancing, but next time include Molly our little Westie. She stood looking at us like she didn’t know who we were, and Beanie the cat had a screwed up look on his face.

This is just so cute I had to pass it on.

Be yourself and have fun, and just remember, if the dog and cat laugh it doesn’t mean they don’t love you.

Anniversary Sweetheart

kiss again10

Today is our fifth anniversary, we have been together for seven, glorious years. It took both of us awhile to find the right person, but later is better than never.

We spend a lot of time smiling at each other, and the laughing goes without saying. He is my best friend and I his, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Both of us like to be hams on occasion. He once pretended to be Elvis playing a guitar, and I just so happened to have the video camera at the ready. I love spontaneous moments like this, and laugh each time I watch it.

He is the love of my life, and I cherish every day, even when he’s not serenading me.

Daily Prompt: Comfort Zone

What are you more comfortable with — routine and planning, or laissez-faire spontaneity?

I think I would go nuts if I had the to plan everything, it’s just not in my nature to do that. I’m the type of person who makes a list to go shopping and then forgets the list at home. I really do try, 🙂

These days I have been watching the organizing gurus on YouTube, it’s quite amusing really, and some of it’s actually rubbing off. They would defiantly wince at the no routine/planning thing, but spontaneity works best for me, or so I keep telling myself, lol.

Taking a road trip and meandering along, not really planning where I’m going to stop, I love that.

…. and since it is my birthday today, I can do whatever I want!

Beautiful and sunny here on the west coast, thank you!!

Daily Prompt: Fantasy

The Tooth Fairy (or Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus . . .) : a fun and harmless fiction, or a pointless justification for lying to children?

Personally I think it’s a little of both. The Easter bunny is distantly related to a religious holiday, and I say distant, because what the bunny implies now has little or nothing to do with how it started out. Mr. bunny originated with the pagan festival of Eastre, and from there went on to become famous when the Germans brought it to America, then it moved into eternal oblivion as westerners  let their children indulge in its surgery goodness.

The Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause follow close behind as symbols of excess, in one way or another. Why we feel the need to reward our children with money under the pillow, I’ll never know. If you think about it for a second, don’t you think little kids might find it a bit creepy to know there has been a stranger in their bedroom at night? And we wonder why our kids have nightmares…

And Mr. Clause….. well, he’s been slam dunked so far from his origin of birth that it’s bizarre. I’m not sure why humans feel the need to twist things to such a distorted level. We have made these holidays fun and enjoyable, but at what cost? Our kids grow up thinking it’s ok to lie to their children, then get all bent out of shape when things go very wrong. But we taught them to do this didn’t we?

We humans are so strange, why is it so difficult to just tell the truth?

About A Friendship

For My Friend Shirley

I have never been the type of person to use the word friend to the extreme. We’ve all known people like that; they invite you over for a small party, saying, ” We’re only inviting a few friends, come on, it’ll be fun.”  When we get there the room is full to capacity, and there are about fifty swaggering people wandering around. Friends…really? I guess some people like that but it’s just not my style. All of this is going somewhere, so be patient, :0), there is always purpose to my writing.

Today when I was running errands I ran into one of my dearest friends. Years ago when  I started working at the store, we met by chance and just seemed to meld together. She would always take the time to say hi each time she shopped, and I would always break the rules and yak a little too long.

Over the years she has listened to when I’m happy and given me a shoulder to lean on when I’m upset. Above all she has always been there for me, and each time we run into each other it’s like no time has passed at all. We laugh and hug, and take time to catch up on each others life, whatever direction it may have taken. She tells me she is proud of me for finally quitting, and is amazed at what a talented person I am.

I love her to bits, this friend of mine. We don’t see much of each other these days. I quite working at the store, and Shirley just doesn’t feel the need to shop as much. On the days when I see her, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, like the clouds have parted and the sun is shinning through just for me. I asked her today how old she is, and with a smile she said, “I’m seventy-eight”, my mouth dropped open in surprise. “Holly shit” I replied, We laughed. She honestly doesn’t look a day over seventy, as I told her so.

We talked and laughed, said goodbye, then started talking and laughing all over again.

Those of you reading this may not know her, but my wish for you, is to have someone in your life who makes you feel like this. I ran across this video, and it just spoke to me. It’s not necessarily about friendship, but it’s about older women and how unique they are, no matter where in the world they may be.

Daily Prompt: Stroke Of Midnight

Well I didn’t turn into a pumpkin and the world has not ended so I’d say things are pretty good. At the stroke of midnight I was already in lala land having a series of disjointed dreams, like usual.

We live in a condo, and truthfully,  I would rather be living on a farm with animals running around, but hey, that will happen one day. I have a wonderful man and people who care about me. Molly our little Westie thinks I’m a great mom, and beanie the cat loves that I don’t mind hair in my cereal, so it’s all good.

I have had wonderful support from fellow bloggers who have taken the time to read my space. Thank you so much. I am learning a great deal from many of you, so many talented and good hearted people out there.

2013 will be an exceptional year.

My thought for the day… for the year..

If most people donated just 50 cents/day to their local animal shelter, they would never be in need, and we wouldn’t be sending cats and dogs down memory lane.
